i recommend if you haven't seen it A nous la liberte, and the films of Jacques tati. These days I'm more into asian movies. But I'll a note of your recommandations. I have seen a fair amount of them though. It happened tomorrow is one of my favourites too. But it's an american movie.

Jacques Audiard is missing and his 3 latest films should be on your list in my opinion. Good list anyway

haha I've only seen 7 of these. Guess I've got some work to do. Oh, and Band of Outsiders probably should've been here IMO.

Crist78, Well, my personal favorite is Young Girls of Rochefort. But if you make a top French film list, I'd love to take a look at it! ;)

Thank you Chanandre. Also, Nicole I know what you mean about Vanessa Paradis. However, I couldn't help but like the film anyway. It touched my soul and I was going through a difficult time. I just find myself in love with it.

At the risk of being utterly attacked, could someone please explain to me why Girl on The Bridge is so revered? Daniel Auteuil is one of my absolute favorite french actors, but I just could not like this movie. It could partially be because I find Vanessa Paradis completely talentless, but I just did not find a lot to love about that film. *my apologies*

Alison, this is one powerful line-up. Girl on the Bridge and The Girl From Paris are two favorites of mine. May I suggest and/or get your opinion of Gabrielle w/ Isbelle Huppert and A Single Girl directed by Benoit Jacquot. ( but you probably already knew that.)

Thank you Laika. Lauren, not to be a bitch, but Story of a Cheat is INCREDIBLEEEEE. See it when you can (and ASCAP). I've never actually heard Thérèse Raquin called The Adultress. I think it's an American alternate title that never stuck somehow. But anyway yes Les Diaboliques & Bride Wore Black....woot!!

We share several. I'm soooo mad you have Story of a Cheat on here and I missed by chance to see it! Mad at myself. Story of Women, Drole de Drame, La Ceremonie, Obscure Object, Claire's Knee were close to making my list. I don't really care for A Good Marriage, La vie en rose, Time to Leave or Heart in Winter. Triplettes of Belleville is a good one! I most want to see The Class, The Adultress etc etc--holy crap I can't believe I left of Diabolique & Bride Wore Black. FRENCHIES!

The Henri Langlois picture was very inspiring. I hope you get to see it. I saw it at a film festival way back in 2005.

Very nice list, Allison. I've sen a few of those, but, sadly, not TOO many... And I want to see Fantom d'Henri Langlois, but the version they have on DVD is a little more than half the length of the 210 minute f=running time of the original, which means I miss a lot of awesome stuff...dang. Well, just so long as you see Rivette, Rohmer, Godard, and Truffaut... Savvy
