unavailable on dvd holy grail 1.25.11

By: Mike Spence

These are my holy grail titles because I have never seen them, they’ve never been available on VHS or any hard format, , they aren’t expected to come out anytime soon, and because of what they are. The database entries are some that I’ve seen, but I’m keeping them on the list for nostalgic reasons.

Above Out 1 would be the following films, not in the database:

Unknown John Cassavetes film – John Cassavetes
The Influence of Strangers – Mark Daniels
I Need a Ride to California – Morris Engel
Scenes from the New World – Gordon Eriksen

The stuff that’s not in the database is the highest priority at the moment

10.5.11 – Removed Korty’s The Crazy-Quilt, Funnyman and Riverrun, see here
1.25.11 – I moved The Crazy-Quilt to the bottom because I’ve seen it (and loved it!) but It still needs to be out on DVD asap!
1.25.11 – Added Morris Engel’s never released film!
3.21.11 – Added Eriksen, Removed Doomed Love

Thanks Adam, that film Carney mysteriously alludes to gives me nightmares. Thank god he hasn't spoken about it's quality, to my knowledge or I'd lose my mind. Added.

How about the unreleased Cassavetes film that Carney has alluded to in the past? Of course, the likelihood of this film ever seeing the light of day is slim, but maybe the knowledge that it is out there can make a difference. Hopefully, the idea of one of cinema's greatest artists having a lost work (that really isn't even lost, just withheld) would piss people off enough to maybe open the eyes of the Rowlands estate.

I've only seen "The Crazy-Quilt" and "Alexander the Great" out of these, but "Out 1" and "Doomed Love" are very high on my own to-watch list.
