VERY GOOD OR EXCELLENT FILMS USUALLY UNDERRATED

By: George O. Kaplan

(I include only very good or excellent titles deserving to be vindicated as such, imho)

A work in progress; and as the opinion mainstreams change gratuitously and capriciously on cycles, like weather, the films on this list can appear and disappear depending of the wind.

EXAMPLES (films once ignored or underrated, and years or decades later miraculously restored and ‘discovered’ for posterity as ‘classics’ or ‘cult movies’):

FORT APACHE (John Ford; 1948)
SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON (John Ford; 1949)
THE EXORCIST (William Friedkin; 1973)
THE SHINING (Stanley Kubrick; 1980)
THE THING (John Carpenter; 1982)
RAISING ARIZONA (Joel Coen & Ethan Coen; 1987)

Sorry, I didn't see your post before! Yes, I don't know what happened with 'Taking Woodstock', Ang Lee's films' prestige usually go up and down by critics and I don't know why yet... '24 Hour Party People' had possitive reviews, not overlooked at all, but I think it wasn't took seriously enough, probably because its humor and subjects.
