Visions of America Through European Eyes

By: Joe Bowman

This list is a work-in-progress.

Films that say something about American culture, history, society or the good ol’ American Dream by auteur filmmakers from mainland Europe (or, at least, not the UK). The films must be set in the USA, whether filmed there or on a Swedish soundstage (Dogville). All suggestions welcome.

If you scroll down on the comments, you'll see that I took Kazan off the list since he was essentially raised in the US.

You should see Leningrad Cowboys as well. I'd say it belongs on this list more than anything. Very dry humour, I should warn. This is a fantastic list!
