Starlets often have submissive roles in film, playing into sexists views of women’s role in the world. Their characters often silently endure or return to physically or emotionally abusive relationships for the cliched good life or the sanctity of love, marriage and family.

I love films that get up and shout, ‘This is not the way the world should be!’
