Women in the Prime

By: alex peterson

My favorite films that have women at their center, with attention paid to whether the film is about the women or just about a man’s feelings towards her. The former is what I’m looking for.

It’s disturbing how few women filmmakers are on here: Varda, Akerman, Campion, Ramsay – c’est tout? je pense que non.

also, very few american films…hmmm. fuller, ray, sirk (whom i left off)

please list more.

glaring omission, i've never seen "mouchette" and despite that bresson is one of my favorite directors. it's not like there are a thousand and one bresson retrospectives around portland (or) anyway, great suggestion, do you have a list of great women films?

No film by Bresson? I would suggest to add either "Mouchette", "A Gentle Woman" or "The Trial of Joan of Arc".

totally agree, leaving off most of cassavettes ouevre is a major oversight on my part. i like almodovar but he's never sunk in for me. thelma and louise, yeah, that would make a list like this. anyone else?
