glaring omission, i've never seen "mouchette" and despite that bresson is one of my favorite directors. it's not like there are a thousand and one bresson retrospectives around portland (or) anyway, great suggestion, do you have a list of great women films?

No film by Bresson? I would suggest to add either "Mouchette", "A Gentle Woman" or "The Trial of Joan of Arc".

totally agree, leaving off most of cassavettes ouevre is a major oversight on my part. i like almodovar but he's never sunk in for me. thelma and louise, yeah, that would make a list like this. anyone else?

Thelma and Louise - not a female filmmaker of course (ridley scott) but quite a work...

I was just thinking about this. I just saw "Precious," and realized you never strong, multiple female performances, let alone strong female performances... though, I might consider adding "A Women Under the Influence?" Or howzabout "An Unmarried Woman." Plus, almost anything by Almodovar has been good to women.
