Wonderful scenes you have picked. I absolutely love the gin rummy scene in Born Yesterday.

Let's just note a few remarkable performances in Cukor's films: Lowell Sherman in What Price Hollywood, Cary Grant in Holiday and The Philadelphia Story, Spencer Tracy in Adam's Rib and Pat and Mike, Ronald Colman in A Double Life, James Stewart in The Philadelphia Story, Aldo Ray in The Marrying Kind, James Mason in A Star is Born. Clark Gable was wrong.

I'd also add John Barrymore in Dinner at Eight and Charles Boyer in Gaslight.

I take it that Women's Director is used ironically, since George directed so many superb male performances as well.
