Cannes for Free!

Cannes

"So, where's the Cannes Film Festival being held this year?" Christina Aguilera is rumored to have asked a few years ago. Well, as a few more years go by, the question may become less and less silly. It'll be a while, perhaps a very long while indeed, before we'll be able to watch films online anywhere as they debut on the Croissette, but that won't keep us from celebrating some of the grandest festival's grandest premieres from years past.

Stella Artois is presenting a selection of our favorites right here on The Auteurs, viewable for free around the world from now through June. Selections range from Wong Kar-wai's Happy Together to Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle, Catherine Breillat's Fat Girl to Federico Fellini's Amarcord, Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Climates to Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura — and more.

To get started, click here — not on the pages for the individual films, but here.

“viewable for free around the world from now” feels slightly misleading when not one of the films highlighted is viewable in my region.

    Hi Richard,

Cannes selections are viewable for free from around the world and the selection ranges, as David says.

Welcome to the commercialized ‘free’ internet sponsored by a beer.

    p.s. “Croisette”

No one are free in Canada neither, but Stella Artois is available in store, guess I’m gonna choose another beer…

How exactly do I get to see the full list of the films available to see? When I get to the link posted above, it shows only some of them. Or it’ll change with time, or…?

  • Tobin.

Not fair! Why do you have to be 18 to watch?

  • Thorsten

unfortunately the selection viewable in my region is much less interesting than what is mentioned in the above article. Sigh.
    Life is a bitch sometimes.

  • Jaime Grijalba Gómez

Same as everyone else, none of the film named in the article are available in http://www.theauteurs.com/stellaartois Right now I’m seeing Walkabout.

  • Daniel Kasman

Hi Jaime — we’re showing different Cannes films in different countries.

The same movies available for free on the Stella page are still listed as Pay films if you call the specific film up by searching it – maybe why people are getting confused.

Just go to the Stella page. They’re there and they’re free.
