Official selection in Cannes includes Competition and Un certain regard. The latter is the “discovery” slot of the official selection, a favorite of film critics and curious cinephiles. The official competition is not only a meeting place for celebrated directors’ new films, but also a “manifesto” of the festival’s artistic directors about new directors, new trends and talents, and about the state of things.
