For more than sixty years, the Cannes Film Festival has premiered some of the most daring and controversial cinema of all time. In this month’s festival, we’re proud to present six masterpieces that debuted on the Croisette, including Antonioni’s L’avventura, which was jeered and booed before being awarded; Agnès Varda’s Cléo from 5 to 7, about two hours in the life of a chic Parisienne; Masaki Kobayashi’s bloody samurai drama Harakiri; and that Greek myth gone Brazilian, Black Orpheus. The Criterion Collection presents these Cannes winners and more. Sponsored by IFC Films.
