Ironically, I review this after reviewing The Wrestler. What does this movie do right, as it’s still plagued with a story that’s a conventional melodrama? Characters go beyond type, the pacing is dead on and the events have life and death relevance for everyone (hence, gravity), and dangit you’ve bogie and bergman. They don’t write roles like this anymore, and they rarely make movies like this. It’s a punch in the gut every time, and a singular joy to watch.
