As good an actress as Mia Farrow can be, up until the last 10 minutes of “Radio Days,” Sally was absolutely the most annoying female character I have ever had to hear or see in a motion picture. I WISH Danny Aiello’s mobster had shot her, so I didn’t have to hear her scream in that one scene.
That aside, this is a likable trip down memory lane. As I’ve found in the Allen movies I’ve seen, I enjoy them more the less he talks and lets either the images fill the screen with a detectable warmth, and then lets a sly one-liner creep in during a serious bit. Not bad, but not a patch on his ode to ’30s cinema “The Purple Rose of Cairo.”
