Another masterpiece of horror and suspense from Italian horror maestro Dario Argento. This offbeat giallo is Argento at his most surreal – beautifully shot and masterfully crafted with strong touches of strange humor. As with most Argento films, the plot can be difficult to follow (and this version also had a strange habit of dialogue switching from English to Italian at the drop of a hat), but with such a stylish and entrancing atmosphere and several extraordinary set pieces, that is never a major concern. This is the kind of masterpiece that identifies Argento as a cinematic genius.
