I saw this film last year and was blown away with it. Pere Portabella made the best Christopher Lee Dracula film on the sets of the worst Christopher Lee Dracula film. And the result is a work that is more faithful to the novel than many other “traditional” adaptations and horror films. The film was shot with high-contrast black and white that recalls Murnau and Dreyer and aside from the very last scene(where Christopher Lee reads aloud the ending of Dracula from the book in English), there is no dialogue. However Portabella has a very carefully made soundtrack of noises and sounds and a weird music score that creates a mood as creepy as NOSFERATU. A great Spanish masterpiece by an obscure film-maker. Let’s hope it becomes better known.
