A great film not only because it traverses a path that is not just original but in a little way, reinvigorating this kind of genre film.
This is a big directorial achievement for Gus Van Sant, one of the most revered American filmmakers living today, even without leaving behind the signature touch of his filmmaking – the use of sound, visual metaphors and editing.
I almost dismissed this film because of the running time for me to spend long hours watching what seems to be an ordinary commercial fare, but surprisingly, the film just nailed it. The performances of the supporting actors are impressive, also that of Damon, Williams and Affleck.
Finally, there is a mainstream cinema done at its most elegant and profound way. But sadly though, this is year 1997. Hopefully, there will be more like this in our current year.
