“I don’t know what love is” sings Joe Strummer in his original song for the film, and I think that’s what Sid & Nancy is about: two silly teens in the bodies of a man and a woman looking for love in the wrongest possible person. They were both harmful for each other (in real life and in the film) since Sid became a heroin addict beacuse of Nancy, and she found an environment in which excess is accepted, thanks to him. In the end, they destroy each other never wanting to. There’s a meaningful scene in which they are kissing in a dark street while trash falls on them as if it were rice on a wedding, and I think it explains their whole relationship, they are in hell being consummed slowly, so in the end, I think Joe Strummer was pretty much correct when he named his song Love Kills.
