Untitled

Pretty entertaining in that shallow, Tony Scott way. The director knows how to stimulate suspense: keep the camera constantly moving. A cheap tactic, but with heavy editing and a violent soundtrack, it gets the job done. It’s pretty straight forward, superficial entertainment, but the hearty performances of Washington and Travolta excel over the exhausted post-production techniques and what-have-you. The acting on all fronts was strong, from consistenly enjoyable character actors John Torturro and Luis Guzman to the minor characters on the train. The plot has plenty of weaknesses, some unnecessary car crashes, but it’s tight enough for a thoroughly enjoyable and swiftly forgettable blockbuster. I’ll tune in for Scott’s next train movie due in 2010.
