Here you go—now THIS is how you do it. In my opinion, Romero’s best all-around film (I was never a big fan of Dawn). Great characters, arguably the best zombie effects ever conceived (by Savini in his prime) and excellent satire—this film has it all.

But the character of Bub elevates this film to another plane. Romero would try something similar again in Land of the Dead but it was ham-fisted at best—a zombie screaming skyward in angst can’t compare to Bub’s subtle performance.

Here’s hoping Romero can do it again.
