This is one of the most fast paced films I’ve seen from Allen yet. Kenneth Branagh’s character reminded me of Woody himself, actually. It was almost like Woody wrote the dialog for the character of Lee Simon with the intention of playing him. Branagh did a great job though, as did this fine cast.
You can hardly get through a scene without saying to yourself “Oh look, there’s that actor.” or "Oh look, it’s so and so.”
The script is witty and entertaining, as I’ve come to expect from Allen.
The music was great, as I’ve also come to expect from Allen.
The one thing I can’t figure out yet, is why Allen chose to film this in black and white. Usually there’s a reason behind a decision like that and I can’t quite see it yet. It’s not necessarily a bad choice, just an unusual one. Although I’m sure Allen had a reason.
I think this is a solid film from Allen, and one that I personally enjoyed.
