A wonderful film and the first feature by Chaplin. I’ve seen the film hundreds of times since I was about 11 and only now do I wish it was longer. The sets in this film are absoutely outstanding and the sequence where the Kid is taken from Chaplin is one of the most moving in cinema history. The misunderstood Heaven sequence is wonderful as well. Many do not see the relevence of this sequence, but it expresses the Tramps search for a world with meaning, a world where he is re-united with his child and where everything is fine, but cannot be helped but be touched by sin. As a result of this, the Tramp dies, he cannot live in this world, with his lost kid tugging on his wings.
