In a lot of ways, Predator is the greatest action movie ever made. It’s certainly the best Sci-Fi/Action movie ever made. It terms of straight-forward storytelling and characters it is simply unmatched. I don’t think there is one bit of dialogue that isn’t quotable and completely amazing to listen to. Arnold Schwarzenegger is an unstoppable force of testosterone and power. Not only can he single-handedly defeat an advanced alien species, he can do it without any guns. Resorting to mud and spears shows that he is really the Predator of the movie. Then on top of all of this you have a great integration of a manhunt going on. The Predator character is one of the most bizarre and interesting characters to be brought on screen. You immediately want to know where it comes from and what it is doing on earth. The supporting cast is loaded with great people: Jesse “The Body” Ventura, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke and Sonny Landlam. Each bring a little to this amazing adventure into the South American jungle. What makes it the classic it is and not just a great b-movie is the directing from John McTiernan. Very few directors know how to make action movies good, truly good. This is shot extremely well and everything in the film that happens makes sense. There aren’t thousands of explosions for no reason or campy villains, only the essentials.
