Jean Seberg and Jean-Paul Belmondo carry this frenetic episode in the life of a petty criminal and anchor it firmly with their original personalities: Belmondo with his athlete’s agility and physique and Seberg with her cool beauty; as the film swirls around them in a profusion of sometime ragged jump cuts, interspersed with extended moments of lovers small talk. Jean-Luc Godard wrote his name in film history with this, his first feature film.
