Louise Brooks, the most beautiful actress of the silent era, is the heart and soul behind Pabst’s melodrama. Not so much about the story as it is about the striking images and cinematography, Pandora’s Box is an interesting evocation of Murnau’s style and Brook’s air of sensuality. However, you will probably have to watch more than once to truly understand what is going on in the plot, my suggestion is to get the Criterion edition and watch with the commentary on.
