The complete lack of comedy and irony in Taxi Driver makes a connection with Godard tenuous for me.
The malaise of Godard’s characters doesn’t strike me as pathological as Travis’ but you may disagree.
I would say also that the lack of pop culture and current events in Scorcese distances him from Jean-Luc “Cinema” Godard.
James, if you’ve seen a connection, I would like to hear about it. However, I have not previously seen any connection of that sort, so have nothing to offer. Are you saying that you see a connection, or are you wanting to see if the connection is there out of curiosity?

Just wondering if anyone wanted to discuss the Godardian influence/homages in Taxi Driver, or any Martin Scorsese film. How much Godard does he put into his films? Do we see any other directors (ex. Hitchcock, Bresson) making as great an impression on Scorsese’s work as Godard does? Does anybody really know what time it is? Does anybody really care?
