2001: A space odyssey interpretation? What do you think?

There are several motifs in this film, ranging from man’s connection with his primitive self, to the destructive potentiality technology possesses. To briefly state, I believe the main, very broad idea of the film is man discovering and advancing. This is a tale of man’s development and evolution into the beyond. Throughout the stages of the movie, certain rectangular metal objects are found placed by a being or a group of beings. The discovery of these objects (three of them) are what fuel the progression of the story-to-story movement. Each tale involving the finding of these huge things is accompanied by a story detailing the life and conditions of human beings (this is were the smaller motifs emerge). It all leads to a very bizarre scene reminiscent of an afterlife before the film concludes. Most all of you, of course, know that, but it never helps to review. In terms of the story, I think that the objects were planted by a God-force. This force is a spiritual deity, but rather alien creators, higher beings of life.
To me, the colossal pieces of metal are really just metaphorical markers on the path of human progression and discovery. They look onward as our species, even with all it’s trials and tribulations, moves forward, discovering formerly mythical entities such as creators and higher levels of reality.
That’s pretty much all I got for now. Again, this was meant to be a brief post.
