Really excited for people to see “A Woman in a Whirlpool”. It’s incredible. This film has no business being so obscure.
Yeah, you are the only fan of it on MUBI! I’ll try to make this one a priority, especially since one I submitted is against it.
Looking forward to the match and seeing your film. it looks fantastic.

Blissfully Yours (2002)![]() Thailand ![]() Original title: Sud sanaeha Directed by: Apichatpong Weerasethakul Approximate runtime: 125 min Submitted by: Kenji |
yes! another match where i’ve seen both already. and a supremely easy decision. even if the israeli film does quote unica zurn/hans bellmer:

Awww Esther didnt make it in for Israel ):
Don’t jump the gun Santropez. There are more chances for films from Israel to be played.
=o true, hope Israel wins this round :D
Esther is a film everyone must watch sometime on their lives :P
But it’s not the only other film from Israel in the queue. I’ve got my fingers crossed that my choice, Sallah, might have a shot. (In any case, it will be hard to beat Weerasethakul round these parts.)
Israel vs. Thailand will be a nail biting round. Blissfully Yours is slowly becoming one of my most treasured films, so A Woman’s Case (1969) really has a challenge in front of it.

Yay, Die Nibelungen made the cut! Maybe I’ll come out of retirement and write one last Lang intro for the Cup.
silent films!! hooray!! i’ve been wanting to see those two anyway xD
yes please do an intro for the films, duncan!
I’m really excited to see the Lang films just added. These have been on my ‘must see’ list for a couple of years, but just seem to never get around to seeing them. I’m a real fan of Lang, too, esp. his German period. Finally, I get to see these – hooray! I’m nuts about The Ring cycle, and those hairy Nibelungen guys, too. I’ve got several versions of The Ring cycle on CD/record and have seen (or have) a few video versions, too. But, I’ve still been missing adding these very Nibelungen to my ‘collection’. Yay!

Rackham’s Nibelungen
I second, or third the yays. I’ve seen one (before a performance of Siegfried), but two together should be very nice indeed.
more lang? because if we didn’t figure out whether we liked him enough in the last cup, this one will change that? i’m not watching any more matches with directors from previous cups. it’s not very exciting. which is a shame, because that’s the funniest chinese film i’ve seen.

more lang? because if we didn’t figure out whether we liked him enough in the last cup, this one will change that?
Well clearly from above there were lots of people who hadn’t seen it yet but are looking forward to it. Hopefully this can be a good opportunity for that and for some good discussion. I’m going to try to fit it in because I really want to watch both of these films too.
Jose Val del Omar ! O_O l’m happy, oh l’m happy <3
Omar is going to win this shit.
I hope some people like The Interview as well, even though it is in the vein of certain mainstream sensibilities, I think it’s as good as some of the films I’m expecting it to get compared to. I’m excited to see Fire in Castilla which has a great still on the MUBI page.
Jake La Motta
@Didn’t Jake submit The Beekeeper as well? Expect a lot of brickbats Jake.
Well,I didn’t know what people would have thought of The Beekeeper, though I expected more positive opinions…But it is a great film, and I’m happy that many people watched one of the less known films of Angelopoulos.
About Saraband,I think that I can see negative comments coming!!!I know that many people don’t like Bergman’s late TV films. But it’s among my favorite Bergman films, and I think that it was a great last instalment in his magnificent filmography, and I would like to defend my opinion against people that may not like the film.
