A postscript from the aforementioned Dimitris:
“A Moment of Innocence died in spite of the valiant efforts of Ozufan. I won’t let the last film made by a woman go awry. GO WOMEN AMIDST THIS FUCKING CHAUVINIST WORLD OF ART!“And both the style and content are crap anyway and easily refuted.”
Keep on attacking me Zvelf…I DO have the right to post however I desire since I have contributed in this site’s CULTURAL SPIRIT as opposed to the likes of you who shouldn’t even speak on a conversation dealing with people who day by day stalk me just because I DARED to argue the obvious: of them voting down films which do have subtitles but just because they haven’t watched them, it’s impossible for them to actually bother with their case.
“If they see Sansho (which is less canonized than Ugetsu in any case) and don’t explore further Mizoguchi, it isn’t Sansho’s fault but the lack of Greek openness to more Mizoguchi.”
I can’t blame cinephiles all the time and if I do, I’ll blame their bigotry towards DOWNLOADING! So you may be a supporter of downloading just like myself or you may be live in a privileged country like fucking France and fucking U.S.A. but that doesn’t mean my country’s academic community gives a shit the way France or U.S. circles do. The lack of Greek openness, is that all you have? My arguments are easily refuted? At least I’m not afraid to use my real and my country of origin.
“Dimitris shows his rank hypocrisy in supporting The Travelling Players, which is easily Angelopoulos’ most famous and canonized film.”
Travelling Players is canon by who? The Greek critics and the fucking Cahiers or fucking Sight and Sound? Very fucking wonderful. So tell me Zvelf…how many have actually watched the most canonized Greek film as opposed to EVERYTHING made by Tarkovsky and EVERYTHING made by Jean Vigo? No, really, I dare you. You see, even the Apu trilogy has garnered more theatrical viewings, the most canonized film(s) in Indian history (unfortunately), than Theo’s film, so let’s be fucking honest here Zvelf, it’s little to no importance whether you think it’s just a “good” film (and I suggest you don’t see anything Greek-originated at all since you probably comprehended shit from that film), it’s about cultural perspective AND the fact most of the ones who voted it did so out of spit. Did they do the same with Tie Xi Qu? No and it’s possible some of them who did so in a film thrice the length of Travelling did so because of well…the humongous length. It’s preposterous you’re still bothering to comment on my arguments when I didn’t want to contradict with you in the first place but it’s obvious you’re as close-minded and “stiff” in your manners the way some others members here have been towards AND THEY STARTED IT!
“Because Day of Wrath sucks comparatively?”
And I suppose Gertrud in your eyes is what, in Dreyer’s top 3 films? Please don’t make me laugh with your pitiful arguments, go watch Day of Wrath again or I’ll think you might prefer Gertrud, a pseudo-Bresson copy of a film more. Sucks comparatively, wow…that’s quite the eloquence there Zvelf. Goes to show your meager vocabulary and inept expression.
“C’mon is right. Chimes at Midnight made the top 50!”
So it’s ok for Sansho and Rublev to make it in a top 50 but not for a LESSER-KNOWN Welles? I presume you’d be much more excited with a fucked up canonized Welles film? Perhaps the over-blown Lady from Shanghai? Or that piss-poor Josef K turd in The Trial?
Why not Ivan’s Childhood instead of Rublev? (or why not zero Tarkovsky period since all of his films are holy canonized edifices?)
Why not Taira Clan and Oharu instead of Sansho? Why not Joan of Arc instead of yet another men’s tale in Man Escaped?
All in all, It’s been a good experience and I do have to congratulate Polaris even though the final result will have been an amagalm of hostile behavior and free-spirited horizons, a necessary ying and yang of distortions and hidden agendas. I’ll arrive with my final comments after the conclusion next time.
