Beating on The Wild Child. Not very nice.
ditto ungentlemanly attentions toward the lady eve
To me, El Topo feels like a half-measure, as though Jodorowsky couldn’t quite give up his narrative inclinations and wound up oscillating back and forth from full-on incoherence and just a surreal sort of plotline. The Holy Mountain doesn’t do things halfway at all – if it’s doing it, it’s going to do it all the way – so not only does that mean that he’s entirely giving over to his ideal aesthetic, the film’s biting off a whole lot to chew – much more than “God is baaaad”. Essentially it takes every idol, every lofty value, every prophet, every holy book, and flays it until only the hypocritical or contradictory essentials remain. It’s not just religion that it’s attacking, but every form of dogma, belief and blind faith. And at the very end, there remains only one “holy book” to dismiss: the film itself. Every time I watch it, I find it tremendously eye-opening and, in the end, uniquely cathartic. I’ve always been big on surrealism. It gets at ideas that can’t adequately be explained in words.
But because Jodorowsky’s film is sadly done for, let me take it out with love and boost another, very different surrealist work:

Goodbye Holy Mountain. I love you so.
@ Drunken Father Figure of Old
Oh, come. THE HOLY MOUNTAIN can’t go anywhere. Jodorowsky is a true genius. EL TOPO and SANTA SANGRE deserve to be on the top 20 finals for this year (make them an extra +2 along with THE HOLY MOUNTAIN.) Not to mention Juan López Moctezuma’s occult shocker masterpiece, ALUCARDA (still an extra +2 for that as well.)
@ Christopher, I still don’t think you quite understand how voting works.
Each voter gets one vote per day, submitted in this fashion:
Film A +2
Film B -1
Film C -1
If you wanted to apply your +2 for the day to Sátántangó, which you showed your love for yesterday, I would be totally grateful :)
@Nick Block
Makes a lot of sense, Nick.
I most certainly love to still apply Sátántangó for a +2.
I had a quite a few films I applied for +2 yesterday. Right now, I still trying to help with Druken Father Figure of Old with Jodorowsky’s films (especially THE HOLY MOUNTAIN). I will still keep in mind with how the voting works, pal. Thank you, Nick. :)

Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any Jodoworski (although I have been eyeing the Mobeius book based on his Dune movie that the Half Price near my house has), so I can’t lament the passing of Mountain. Looks like crazy fun, though.
@ House of Leaves
You should see Jodorowsky’s films as well Moctezuma’s ALUCARDA. Moctezuma co-prodcued Jodorowsky’s first two films (FANDO Y LIS & EL TOPO) before directed ALUCARDA.
