Mackendrick’s fine film has been in my Top 20 for many a long year. This isn’t a “quirky” choice – the film is beloved by all English sophisticates and Ealing fans. The remake is awful – the only Coen brothers film I could stand was Blood Simple. Last week I went to the new stage version of Ladykillers which was also SHITE with a capital S*H*I*T*E.
