+2 Edvard Munch
-1 Celine and Julie Go Boating
-1 3 Women
The Executioner +2
Satantango -1
Train of Shadows -1
+2 In A Lonely Place
Know I’m a bit late to the Tarkovsky discussion, but my ranking of his films is
1. Stalker
2. The Mirror
3. The Sacrifice
4. Solaris
Used to dislike The Mirror but came around to it after a few months’ contemplation. I think The Tree of Life is heavily inspired by it, what with the nature imagery and thematic focus on the Biblical commandment “honor thy father and mother.”
Macho, Satantango is available on DVD from Netflix. Just make sure to rent all three discs at a time, and watch with as few stops as possible. It’s a visual beauty, so watch on an HDTV, the larger the better.
Woman in the Dunes +
+ 2 3 Women
-1 Satantango
-1 Harakiri
I’ve seen 31 of the final 56, and the only movie left I don’t like is Woman in the Dunes. There are quite a few left though that I don’t think should be close to a top 20.
I’d rank Tarkovsky’s films:
1. The Mirror (10/10)
2. Andrei Rublev (10/10)
3. Ivan’s Childhood (9.5/10)
4. The Sacrifice (9/10)
5. Nostalghia (8.5/10)
6. Solaris (7/10)
7. Stalker (6/10)
8. The Steamroller and the Violin (4/10)
Edvard Munch +2
The Passion of Joan of Arc -1
Lucky Star -1
Los Olvidados +2
travelling players -1
city of pirates -1
Changing my Age of the Earth +2:
The Travelling Players +2
My minus points stay the same.
Can I do that?
Also: is City of Sadness gone? I voted it many times but I suppose I didn’t help a lot… :(
A pity, cos it’s a stronger film than many left, and still not exactly on everyone’s lips
The Cameramen (Keaton): +2
About what time are we expecting Polaris to post the next round? It’s 12:24 in Texas, will we hear something at the hour? I woke up around 3:30 with the flu, so the game will cheer me up.
Alright, so what which is it, Harakiri or The Human Condition? I just don’t want to see a mass of people voting both of these two wonderful films out of the top 20 simply because one of them “has” to go. We should come to an agreement on which one more people enjoy so that doesn’t happen. Aside from me I don’t anyone voting + or – for THC so I’m not sure what to think about that but Harakiri always has at least 3 or 4 ardent supporters. I say Harakiri deserves the top spot in this case.
I would guess that since we haven’t heard from Polaris by now, the new round won’t be posted until tomorrow. But it’s just a guess.
City of Pirates +2
Ride Lonesome -1
The Green Ray -1
I’m posting in about an hour.

Also this probably brings us under 50, so we’re probably going to get rule changes.
D – I – B!!!
D – I – B!!!
D – I – B!!!

“Alright, so what which is it, Harakiri or The Human Condition?”
I would recommend voting up whichever is higher and leaving whichever is lower alone to be voted down naturally by people who dislike it.
—PolarisDiB
but what if you prefer the the one that’s lower…?
which is it of the two? how about this. if they both end of up in the top 20, it’s both. if neither do, it’s neither. if one does, it’s that one!
Will he break another tablet once the top twenty is set?

ROUND SIXTY SIX
Mwahahah and devil worship and stuff or something.
Nothing voted off. Everything -1. Nothing drops.
62 tallies takes down Evolution of a Filipino Family, The Dupes, Edvard Munch, The Travelling Players, Lucky Star (Borzage), Heartbeat Detector (aka The Human Question), The Corridor, Sans Soleil, and The Green Ray. Fun fact: at one point during this round The Travelling Players was at the very top with 17 points. So no, no movie is “safe” in the way they were in previous rounds.
The Mirror finally shattered. It dropped from the bottom. Next five get -1.

DOUBLE TIME: We’re finally at that point. You get two +2 votes and four -1 votes. No combining votes. Unused negative votes will create tallies up to two -1s, but not three or four.
Don’t think it’ll make it easier or create less drama, though.

Hey, DiB, since we get double now, can we spread those out during the round as long as we don’t vote for anything twice?
must i use all my votes at once?
Kilgore Trout
Want to vote for Sansho, A Time to Live and A Time to Die, Yeelen, and Rublev to keep them all in the running, but for now I’ll go with the one ranked highest in my own top 20:
+ 2 The Passion of Joan of Arc
- 1 The Traveling Players
- 1 City of Pirates
