I’d say half hat.
Like All hat and no Cattle?
Or did you mean to say: ‘all that’?
That’s an interesting idea.

Yeah, like all hat and no cattle.
But obviously there are people who disagree.

They can’t see(the truth).
I haven’t seen all or most of his work, so I can’t give a definitive grade on him as an artist.
I think that I would put him in the same range as Ozu, based on what I have seen from him. Although, Ozu is better with drama, as Ray is better with the visual aspect of filmmaking.
From what I have seen from Ray, I would not quite put him at the highest levels of cinema, but he is not just some hack or also ran, either. He is also very consistent, which can count for something, to me. I haven’t seen anything from him that is as bad as Kurosawa or Bergman’s worst.
I Just take my hat off in front of some of his films.
@Apu:
Ha ha ha!
“I haven’t seen anything from him that is as bad as Kurosawa or Bergman’s worst.”
Thinking about it, I would say
worst of Bergman>worst of Kurosawa>worst of Ray
based on bottom 3 of the 20-odd films I’ve seen from each
Saraband and Rhapsody in August are pretty bad.
Why disagreed upon? Stanley Kaufman and John Simon agrees.
I haven’t seen all of Ray’s hats either, but I wouldn’t say he is all hat.
Apparently he does have a nice collection, but c’mon, when is a hat actually a turban?
“when is a hat actually a turban?”

lol
or is he old hat ( no pictures, but hey, don’t let that stop you)

Lovely, that’s a splendid old hat. Hats off!
You can see his glasses there, too, right next to the hat.
That looks more like Ophuls’ hat, than Ray’s.
Is Ophuls old hat? Or all that? Or all mouth and no trousers? Or fur coat and no knickers?
@Brady G. – but where are his gloves?

He’s wearing them.
I can see a ‘directors in hats’ thread coming ….
hahaha :)
brady qw
Well maybe he is.
