…oh my god
yes
Very exciting. Three of these are not on region 1 DVD, and The Shanghai Gesture DVD is a terrible print.
Thanks for the tip Tommy.
Ah yes, I remember peeking at the next month’s schedule and noticed this. I’m very excited to see both Shanghai Express and Crime and Punishment especially.
I really can’t wait… this is going to me AWESOME.
I haven’t seen Morocco yet. Ah man, aweeesssoommee..
I am constantly looking at the schedule for TCM. Lately they’ve been playing a lot of stuff that’s kind of hard to get a hold of. I’m always afraid that I might miss something great. I watched Stanley Kramer’s The Defiant Ones on TCM and I know that is out of print on dvd and I was blown away at how good it was and was extremely glad I was able to see it.
Just a reminder for tonight. Enjoy.
Crime and Punishment, very rare!
It’s too bad The Scarlet Empress isn’t on tonight’s schedule, it’s Sternberg’s most gonzo and most amazing film.
Well, looks like I’m not going to go to see And Everything Is Going Fine tonight. :P
Savvy
A less important Von Sternberg film The King Steps Out is also going to be shown (at the tale end).
I realize it’s not on the schedule, but has anyone seen von Sternberg’s An American Tragedy?
Criterion’s Joseph Von Sternberg: 3 Silent Classics was the overall top vote-getter in their annual DVD and Blu-ray of the Year poll.

^ I can attest to that. It’s incredible. The prints are superb.
I’m mad my cable provider dropped TCM from my package. On the plus side, i probably have like ten more shopping channels….
Tommy
Be sure to set your dvr’s for this because I know I’m really excited about this. On January 3rd, TCM will be playing several Josef Von Sternberg films that, from what I am aware of, are particularly difficult to get a hold of.
8:00pm Shanghai Express
9:30pm Morocco
11:15pm Crime and Punishment
1:00am The Shanghai Gesture
2:45am Macao
I don’t know if anyone cares for Sternberg, but I can’t wait. I’m particularly excited for Shanghai Express. I don’t know how long I’ve been wanting to see this film.
