Abel Ferrara needs some Criterion.

^Ken Kelsch is one of the best gritty/urban cinematographers in America. Bad.Lieutenant makes Taxi Driver look glossy in comparison ;-)

Thx for the info.

Man, I’d love to see New Rose Hotel on Bluray.

^^Good luck with that. It barely got a release on dvd!!! ;-)

not a huge fan of it, but i remember being impressed with the look at the time. almost DV like. seemed a little experimental.

Yeah, New Rose Hotel is easily tracked down, but its full-frame, and I believe some scenes are missing. Bad Lieutenant would kill on BR. I got the special edition and its a straight transfer from the Artisan release, BUT, the commentary is awesome and the documentary is incredibly thorough. Not only covering all aspects of the film but also Ferrara’s current career limbo.

^^The Sterling release of New Rose Hotel is widescreen, but it’s non-anamorphic.

the other interesting thing about New Rose Hotel is its use of multi media. so much of what we see is through media devices, whether portable or otherwise. it creates a real atomised, claustrophic atmosphere that i believe was a little ahead of its time, maybe. that look has been used in other films.

With a bit of tinkering that film could have been excellent.

New Rose and The Funeral would be spectacular on Blu-Ray. The ones that I’d really like to see get that treatment though are Mary and Go Go Tales.

Absolutely. Hook him up. Way overdue.

I’d love to see any Ferrara in the collection. Amen to everyones’ choices.

Go Go Tails? wtf!?!?! That’s one of his worst! :-)

‘Mary’ was a good concept, i thought, but the movie fell short of its ambitions imo. the structure was too jumbled, and there was too much silliness overall i felt.

‘The Funeral’ was Ferrara’s last great movie to me. although i liked New Rose and Rxmas.

I would like to see Go Go Tales and Mary released here, if for no other reason that the fact that they’re not available at all, and were barely even shown theatrically in the US, so I haven’t seen either.
Given the two either already released or announced on BD, my personal prioritization would be:

1. The Addiction
2. The Funeral
3. Body Snatchers
4. Snake Eyes
5. New Rose Hotel
6. Driller Killer
7. Ms. 45
8. The Blackout
9. Cat Chaser
10. China Girl
11. Fear City

Matt, and the rest of you that care, it has recently been brought to my attention that a company in Germany released The Addiction and The Funeral in 2009 in their correct aspect ratios:

Funeral:http://www.amazon.de/Das-Begr%C3%A4bnis-Christopher-Walken/dp/B001O3AHUK/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1280783002&sr=1-2

The Addiction: http://www.amazon.de/Addiction-OmU-Lili-Taylor/dp/B00145498Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1280783002&sr=1-1

^^Addiction cover isn’t much but i heard the transfer is good.
