Ain’t that dandy!
From what year is the film, 1983?
I think I saw it way, way back when.
Nearly the same thing happened with me, though not over quite as long a time. I saw El Norte in a class about three years ago, and immediately wanted to own it. Looking it up, I found only Reg. 4 editions. I was saddened, but now it’s available and I can own it, so… sweet.

Huh, It’s at my library, so, I think I’ll check it out. Thanks.
I want to see this one, too.
It’s definitely a great film.
Yes, it’s excellent.
I just watched this movie and I was blown away! The ending had really good symbolism- it provided a metaphor for his way of life. From watching the first half I thought the movie may be contrived because I was able to guess certain things that would happen- however it took a different turn, the story went a different way then I had initially expected, a more tragic one and that made the emotional experience of the movie even stronger for me.

It’s excellent, but extremely flawed, but excellent.
I absolutely loved the film and even loved it even more after watching the special features and learned that by filming those scenes, the filmmakers pretty much put their lives at risk. I was surprised to hear all about that.

I was first shown this movie (El Norte) while taking a course in Spanish in high school in 1998. It stuck with me so much, and I was very upset that it was never available on DVD. I knew that my favorite people at Criterion would be the ones to bring it to me! I haven’t pre-ordered a DVD or been so happy upon a movie’s release in quite some time. I just watched it again and it totally lived up to how I remembered it.
