Actor/Actress Film-by-Film Analysis

A new experiment by me.

Each month I plan on picking an actor/actress and will watch several of their movies and then break them down one-by-one in a separate thread.

Has this ever been done on mubi before?

I already know who August’s star is going to be (she’s female) but I won’t say yet.

I’ve already watched one movie with her on DVD, saw another one last month on tv and noticed 2 other films with her are streaming on Netflix. I’ll have to find some of her other movies on amazon instant or DVD and her most recent one I think comes on DVD in a few weeks.

An ambitious experiment….

Anyone want to join me in this?

Any takers?

This month’s star will be announced soon as well as a list of her films and where you can find them! :)

Btw, I’m purposely going to avoid stars with huge, LONG filmographies (sorry, Michael Madsen).

Sounds interesting. These sorts of analysises really can cut to the core at the essence of an actor’s work in relation to their persona and, if they’re really in-depth, what may be beneath it. Do you intend to include any known details of their off-screen lives as a means of compare and contrast with their “lives” onscreen?

Perhaps

Right now I’m just flying by the seat of my pants

I have done this many times on mubi.
I believe many stars are more important to what the film is than the director, a Jimmy Durante movie is a Jimmy Durante movie.

I have done complete write ups on Henry Jaglom and John Derek, but only their directorial work.

I would like to play this game as well soon, maybe I would start with my favorite comedian, Rodney Dangerfield.

Oooooooooh, this sounds like fun! But tough to find someone worth it whose filmography isn’t huge.

Hey, I just saw this thread. Cool idea, Japeman!

I might try to join in. So who’s the star?

It’s kinda what I was doing with the Vulgar Auteur Rankings lists, although doing write-ups never crossed my mind. And I don’t know why… :\

I’ll announce the star on Saturday…. Stay tuned

The reason I chose her btw is the fact that my brother and I got into a very interesting conversation about the characters she usually plays and how she’s attractive but always seems semi-accessible.

I only chose her for that reason. Her filmography isn’t large but she was the reason I decided to do this thread to begin with.

Stay tuned….

Interesting. So, it’s more about how an actor is typecast or works against typecasting than say, an critique of their acting? Sounds pretty cool.
