A woman under the influence. he is very unique… cinematically captures the human condition: the boredom and slow time… his films remind me of samuel beckett’s “waiting for godot.”
truly independent cinema… hand held camera, natural lighting, documentary style, and amazing long takes.

I’ll use this thread to say Ray Carney had a new Cassavetes book coming out of the start of the year which Gena Rowlands has blocked. This is from an email he sent me:
“There is much to say about the film [Woman Under the Influence] that is not known, but it will be a while before it is said I guess. Gena forced the suppression of my last book about JC only a few months before it was scheduled to be published. She is trying to control what is written about her husband and I am not following “the party line,” alas."
“ALL recent prints of WUI have a new (remixed) soundtrack. That includes the one you will see. Also several scenes cut from the print itself. But no one will notice since these cuts and this remix are now in most of the extant prints and the older versions have been lost or forgotten. That is one of the things that Gena R. does not want to me say about the film in a book—among many other things!”
