I personally love the show and will always have a soft spot for it. I grew up watching them at a young age.
Ally: I respectfully think that the site you listed is in error. I was a Hitchcock fan when the TV series began. I remember the first episode which was directed by Hitchcock in the first season was Revenge with Ralph Meeker and Vera Miles. I remember it because it was my favorite of the series. The Vera Miles character is raped and her husband goes with her to find the rapist. It has a fantastic ending. I believe Breakdown was filmed first, but Revenge was shown first.
good, but i think it’s not as strong as twilight zone or outer limits. outer limits being the creepiest of the three.
Yes, Revenge is one of the best eps of the series.
Peter Lorre character from Man from the South really impressed me.
I remember watching a funny episode featuring Robert Morley as a gourmet who had been invited to a celebrated and exclusive eating club. The sinister Madame Spivy was the hostess of the club. The show was called “Specialty Of The House.” Does that sound familiar?
Encore Suspense channel airs two episodes in a row of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour weeknights from 10p.m. to 12. It’s not quite as good as the earlier series, but not bad, the other night I saw an ep. with John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands.
There is a fantastic episode where a woman kills her husband with the wallpaper. Its color is of the ‘Paris Green’ shade, which ceased to be produced in paints and dyes because it could only be made with arsenic.
And, of course, the very famous episode where Barbara Bel Geddes pounds the guy on the head with the frozen leg-of-lamb, and then serves it cooked to the investigating detective, eliminating any trace of the murder weapon.
As Hitchcock himself said, “Many movies try to be slices of life. I prefer to think of my movies as slices of cake.”

In conjunction with Bret Bynum’s Hitchcock thread, I’d like to ask ya’ll what you think of the Alfred Hitchcock Presents television program, if you’ve seen any of it.
Netflix instant view has the show, so I’ve been delving into an episode here and there when I have 20-25 minutes to burn. So far they’re pretty entertaining at least. The time constraints prevent the show from ever reaching the psychological and symbolic complexities of his films, but aside from that they are smooth, well developed short stories.
