Not really. “Four Nights of a Dreamer” is an uncharacteristically light Bresson. While it’s based on a Dostoyesky story (also used by Visconti for “White Nights”) nobdy dies or commits suicide in it. In fact it’s almost a comedy.
A Gentle Woman could be described as a somber sister piece to “Four Nights of a Dreamer”, and is equally based on a short story by Dostoyevsky. The cinematography is also similar, though many scenes of “Four Nights of a Dreamer” are filmed during nighttime while “A Gentle Woman” is rather set in broad daylight. Bresson here also gives us a suicide right at the beginning.
Hideous Bitch Princess
Generally I find Bresson’s stuff to either A) develop too slowly for my tastes, or B) not develop at all. However I really enjoyed this (particularly for the cinematography.) Are there other Bresson films with similar color schemes and styles that you can recommend to me?
