I rather liked Frailty. There is a little too much emphasis on the religious “undertone” (overtone?) of the film, but it worked I think. I’m not a huge fan of it, but as a genre film it works.
this English film Straightheads
Got that recorded to watch :-)
“Dead Man’s Shoes” Posted the opening line on another thread.
“God will forgive them. He’ll forgive them and allow them into Heaven. I can’t live with that.”
It’s gritty and chilling.
I saw it at Bath film festival when it came out. At the end I left with a dropped jaw and it haunted me for ages. Would beg for a criterion edition. It deserves one.
I know Old Boy was mentioned earlier but how about the whole vengeance trilogy. Sympathy for Mr Vengeance and Lady Vengence
I’m surprised no one has mentioned ‘Death Wish,’ ‘Fury,’ ‘Thriller: A Cruel Picture,’ ‘Underworld U.S.A’ or ‘The Last Huse On The Left’ yet
Also, if your looking for revenge films in general (not nessasarily good ones) than you might check out ‘The Expert.’ Be warned though; it is a piece of crap.
‘Kickboxer’ is a good one. So is ‘Sleuth.’
And let’s not forget Sonny Chiba classics like ‘The Street Fighter’ and ‘The Killing Machine.’
Does ‘Pink Flamingos’ count as a revenge movie?
One vastly underrated revenge movie is ‘The Witch Who Came From The Sea.’ A masterpiece! See it now! NOW DAMN YOU!!!!

Kurosawa’s RAN really should have been mentioned by now.
Bully
Hanna. I also second most of the others mentioned.
Vengeance films are my favorite ever since seeing the Chan-wook Park trilogy.
@James D Agreed! Oldboy was sick, just plain gross. But I love it! xD
It took a year for someone to mention Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia?!?
Theater of Blood. Delicious.

Snagging this from the HEAT director’s cup intro thread because I’m reminded that this is one of my absolute favorite moments in movie history, when Neil realizes he’s going to gladly throw away his chance at a new future in favor of getting Waingro back for all the damage he’s caused. Chilling yet strangely inspiring, and all without a single word spoken.
Also, Shoshanna’s entire plot in BASTERDS is pretty astounding.
Vengeance Trilogy by Park Chan-wook is as below ;
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance , 2002, S.Korea
Old Boy , 2003
Sympathy for Lady Vengeance , 2005
ONIBABA
2000 MANIACS
ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST
The DEATH WISH series… come on folks!

In the Bedroom is like The Last House on the Left, but focuses more on the relationship between two parents during the grieving process.
Noel- I think someone has already mentioned ‘Death Wish.’
I came across a list of revenge theme movies. There are some really good stuff in it…
Take a look at http://mubi.com/lists/1029

@ CLAUS HARDING
Yes, I second THE PAGE TURNER.
Did anyone see the very good revenge film, FRAILTY (2001), starring Matthew McConaughey and Bill Paxton?
The film really turnes the “revenge” theme on its head in a surprising way…
THE MISSING (2003) starring Tommy Lee Jones and Cate Blanchett was driven by a revenge theme.
