There’s nothing exactly like Un Chien Andalou, even in Bunuel’s subsequent films.
I would say-
The Exterminating Angel
Blood of a Poet
the “We hunt buffalo now?” scene in Wild at Heart
the Epilog of Berlin Alexanderplatz
Inland Empire
Calvaire (a surprisingly potent Belgian horror film that sneaks up on you)
Amarcord
Pan’s Labyrinth
Hour of the Wolf
Lots of terrific avant-garde films in the 20s and 30s, which often don’t get enough credit v say the post-war American avant-garde/underground . I don’t know which ones you have on the kino video, Wonkajane, but along with Germaine Dulac, Man Ray, Jean Epstein and Jean Cocteau, give The Fall of the House of Usher by Watson and Webber a try. I think the whole (short) is on youtube. More recently the films of Walerian Borowzcyk, Jan Svankmajer and the Quay bros (eg the animation Street of Crocodiles) have some dark, mischievous, surreal Bunuelesque qualities- and would we have had Monty Python without Bunuel? The 1970 Czech film Valerie and her Week of Wonders might appeal.

i caught on to this movie about 3 years ago, and have been watching all of bunuel’s movies that i can find, but i still have a strong affection for un chien andalou and l’age d’or more than his others because of the complete fantasy involved in them. i also picked up a dvd collection from kino video called ‘avant-garde’ films from the 20s and 30s, which i also love. i’m not an expert and it sounds like a lot of you guys are, so i’m hoping someone could recommend me some similar films to these?? thanks in advance
