Dunno about the cover for Blow Out. Doesn’t seem to capture the spirit of the film.
Well I haven’t seen it so I can’t say, but the White Material cover is great.
Agreed. Boo to the Blow Out cover (does anything in the film even have that palet?) Our fake cover artists could do much better. Of course, glad to see it released and its going on my Amazon wish list.
Yes Brad. I’m very happy to see it as well.
Looks like I’ll be saving even more money in April.
Army of s Shadows and Le Cercle Rouge are the only 2011 releases I plan on actually buying. I don’t do blind buys unless it’s a film I’m dying, and I mean dying to see. I’m not really a collector anyway, and I only buy films if think I’ll watch them several times within a year.
Here’s the poster that the Criterion art is taken directly from:

That’s an awesome poster/lobby card

I want to get White Material on DVD but I don’t want to spend $40 on it. No money for Criterion here. At least not until the next big sale I find.
i don’t care where it’s taken from, that cover for Blow Up is lazy to me.
is White Material good?
It’s a far better cover than the one for the Blow Out DVD which I currently own that makes John Travolta look uncannily like a braying donkey.

Rossi please don’t make another criterion realese thread, there is already one called “Criterion coming soon and Discussion Redux”in the forums that gets updated every month. All you have to do is search Criterion and it will come up. Thank you.
Walberto:
Why do you even care that an extra thread was made? How much difference does it make in your life?
oh snap
Seriously guys? You have interest in Blow Out and are criticizing the cover? Yeah it could be better, but ….Criterion is releasing BLOW OUT on Blu-ray!!!!! The best news I’ve heard in months.
- criticizing the cover?-
Welcome to Criterion discuss here at Mubi, Dave. Two things are mandatory—complaining about cover art and someone pointing out the what an affront to the dignity of cinema it is that (whatever’s being released) is being released rather than a new & improved version of Andrei Rublev.
For the record, I love the cover. I think it captures the obsessive despair if the film.
Cool, April’s releases are pretty great, a hell of a lot more exciting than crap like Broadcast News and the baffling choice of those Gilbert & Sullivan films. I’m sure the 2011 releases will get more interesting as the year progresses. “Blow-Out” is easily one of DePalma’s best films, a very worthy Criterion release, and yes, that cover is fantastic. I don’t see why anyone would complain. I haven’t seen “White Material”, but it seems awesome, I’m very eager to check it out.
And for god’s sakes people, quit complaining about “Andrei Rublev”. No doubt Criterion is as eager to re-release it as you are (and me as well!) to purchase it, so they must have their reasons. It’ll come one of these days, and no doubt it’ll be well worth the wait. Me, I’m more eager for them to steal the rights to “Stalker” and " The Mirror" from Kino and improve vastly upon Kino’s crappy versions of those two Tarkovsky masterpieces. One can only hope Criterion is waiting to do them all at once, and make us all piss our collective pants with sheer joy!

Ha! That’s one of the most accurate descriptions of anything, ever.
Indeed, welcome to MUBI, where people are happier about the Blu-Ray release of a bullshit De Palma ripoff of Hitchcock and Antonioni than the Blu-Ray release of a Mike Leigh masterwork.
Opinions differ widely round here. Part of the fun. Usually.
I’m way, WAY excited for Topsy-Turvey, especially after Another Year. Mike Leigh is the real ****ing deal.
Rossi
including Le Cercle Rouge Blu Ray. Is that going to be the next Ran?
