I wonder how much the New Caprica arc of Battlestar Galactica was influenced by Army of Shadows.
What about Sigornets ‘look’ at the ending? Perhaps it is so obvious no one is bothering answering. Silly me.

Le Samouraï I think is my favourite of the bunch, but Army of Shadow (l’Armée des ombres) is without question his best. Pretty much everything in that film is spot on, and much of it is based on Melville’s own personal experience. The soundtrack I also found to be profoundly moving:

…don’t get me wrong, I love Le Samourai. It’s just great in a very different way. After all, it’s difficult to put an epic like Army of Shadow up against a film of much smaller scope.
