Would the “twice the cost” version be the Criterion* that has a second disc, lots of commentary, featurettes and the original credits sequence?
*As a friend has notice Criterion is Latin for “costs twice as much.”
Harry—-REALLY?
double the price for a new score by Phillip Glass? yes please.
has anyone heard the score, is it worth the price?
C’mon Kurt I’m sure you can imagine how Glass’ score will sound, he reuses the same musical techniques in practically every score. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a fine flag bearer of the minimalist tradition, but do you really have to ask what his score will sound like?
I thought Criterion was the singular of Criteria?
Yeah, Glass IS great, but he regurgitates everything onto everything else. hehe.
>>Harry—-REALLY?<<
Well, that’s what _he_says …
(Would I make that up?)
BTW, I have the Criterion disc for LA BELLE & I’ve never even bothered to listen to the Glass opera track. I love Georges Auric’s original too much, for one thing, and I find Glass’ new scores for older movies generally don’t work for me in conjunction with the movie. I love listening to the CD of his DRACULA but hate, hate, hate it with the movie.

This page doesn’t make clear — what is the difference between the “art house version” and the other that is twice the cost?
