^^^yeah i think it was, but for some reason i can’t find the information anymore. it seems to have been taken down.
The second set is coming Mike, I promise and it will include Alexander the Great. (Take that as you will.)
The version of Alexander the Great I saw had pixelated frontal nudity (the really, really distracting kind) which leads me to believe that the transfer was probably from Japan. I’m eager to see what they do with this.
Thanks, Ben!
Just two quick questions:
If I were to remove the region-coding with software can I change the encoding from PAL to NTSC without much difficulty?
Or is it easier to buy a Region-Free player(I’m assuming this is the best option.)?
^^no idea about software, so i’d suggest buying a region free player :-)
Apparently my five year old hand me down laptop is region free. At least, it plays Marketa Lazarova fine. Yippee! Now to order both the entire Vlacil and Angelopolous collections.
I had a region free player but And The Wind Will Carry Us got jammed in it and I can’t open the tray. That’s the problem with region free players. They don’t sell in reputable stores, so they are often inferior hardware.
^^What have you seen of his Jirin? What’s your favourite?
Vlacil or Angelopolous?
Angelopolous: Traveling Players and Reconstruction. The only other I’ve seen is Eternity In A Day.
Vlacil: The Devil’s Trap. I also saw Valley of Bees and am half an hour into Marketa Lazarova. I also saw one more in the Cup last year whose name I forget.
I need to find out if this laptop has video output.
^^yeah Angelopoulos.
I need to see more Vlacil.
Valley Of The Bees was really impressive
I’m back again, this time with a formal announcement for Volume II (with Alexander the Great!).
This is so exciting. I just found out about this incredible director and have watched his later films on Netflix for the first time. It’s such good timing for me to buy these box sets just as I have finally discovered this great filmmaker (I know I might be late to find out about him). I have just bought other DVDs by Artificial-Eye from Amazon.UK now that I have a region-free player and their discs seem to have very consistent quality so I’m glad to see they are in charge of this very important set of releases.
“(I know I might be late to find out about him)”
that’s ok Zach, just about every single fan here was ‘late’ to him, so you are in good company ;-)
His films weren’t that well distributed for years. and still aren’t.

^^i’m guessing the titles listed are wrong?
Nice image though.

Yeah, I hope that’s just a mistake on that image for VOLUME 2. I was also under the impression that those were the films in the first collection – which I already pre-ordered from Amazon.com/uk. I just hope they do release all the films previously hinted at from VOLUME 1 and VOLUME 2! If anyone else gets any new information about these releases please share it. Thanks.
I’ve returned once again with even more news!
Volume III is now a reality!
This set is slated for a December 5th release and will include:
The Suspended Step of the Stork
Ulysses’ Gaze
Eternity and a Day
The Weeping Meadow
The Dust of Time
Thoughts?
^^Yep, i’m not buying it!!! :-)
Already have two copies of Ulysses, Eternity and weeping, and i’ve got S.S.O.T.S too.
I just want Dust Of TIme, which is going to be released separately.
AWESOME. Now I wish I wouldn’t have just bought the Weeping Meadow single disc, but this is still great news.
It will be nice to see The Suspended Step of the Stork without wonky subtitles and I’ve been needing to see Ulysses’ Gaze for quite a while now.
The Traveling Players should be on DVD, somehow soon.

Boo!
@JIRIN:
I got the same email. What a bummer. Does anyone have any information about why this may have happened? Maybe Amazon just had the date wrong in the first place? I hope so, because I hope that these are still released by Artificial-Eye soon. But as long as they still arrive at some point I will certainly still be happy. I’m just getting antsy.
^^well A.E were supposed to release these dvds all the way back in 2007/2008, so we ought to be patient.
we are lucky they are even being released at all.
Oh don’t worry. I will certainly be glad whenever they are released. It will be like a DVD Christmas morning! But if anyone else finds out any new information about release dates please continue to share. Thanks.
Will the films be available individually or only in sets?
^^Sets i think. doubt they would release them individually.
I kind of wish they would though, because all i really need to complete the collection is Reconstruction, The Hunters, Alexander The Great, Voyage To Cythera and The Dust Of TIme. The rest i already own.
What’s this? New artwork!

Is there any information regarding the supplements??
There is a Swiss DVD label called Trigon Film, which has released nearly all Angelopoulos films with lots of bonus material such as long interviews with Theo (shot in April 2011 !!) and his short film “Ekpombi”.
Check out Trigon Film’s website for further information: http://www.trigon-film.ch/
If Artificial Eye would release the collections with the same kind of fantastic bonus material I’d like to wait for those.
Please help!
Yeah Ben,s aw that a few days but couldn’t be assed posting it :-)
Mr Vai, i wouldn’t get my hopes up about bonus features, but you never know.
Mike Spence
I’ve got Alexander the Great on my computer but I’m in no hurry to watch it now. Did we ever confirm that it’s in the second set?
