You could get in contact with icheckmovies and see if they’ll add this as a list to their site. That would be really cool, and would help these films get at least a little more exposure.
Thanks for even counting the votes. I got tired of counting once it got too tedious. I appreciate it :). And the results seem to be great too :D.
Unfortunately, we’re going to have to do the whole thing again and probably start at the beginning of next year. The problem with some of the films selected was that they were either only viewable through limited film screenings, etc. or not available with subtitles so, obviously, most people couldn’t vote for or against them.
I’ll try to put one more limit, that is, that the films selected should be available in video or in the Internet (for people who have no other access to these films) with English subtitles. This way, the films selected could be easily watched by the forum users who are interested. I know not all users in this forum have English as their first language, including myself, but it’s the language we mainly use to communicate in this forum so it goes even without saying that we want the films selected to be also available in English subtitles.
“Deck” – the word is deck: That would be really deck
Hey that is deck you guys – thanks for all the work.
One thing: is there a way to get it in a format that can be copied as a list?
When I take that into MsWord or Excel it doesn’t “list”.
Oh yeah! you can count me in for the next one I’m already thinking about what ten films I might choose!! Some great films on that list from the first one and still quite a few to see!
One note:
“14 The Bad Sleep Well (1963, Akira Kurosawa, Japan) 11”
The Bad Sleep Well is from 1960, High & Low is from 1963 :)
If it is done again, I think this shows a successful dry run and I agree with Cecil, may as well submit it that site as the Auteurs (AKA Mubi) Alternative Canon 2009.
M°, I respect your effort on this, going through the votes must have taken a great deal of time.
@SCORPIORISING
Yeah. Lack of availabilty was the main shortcoming of the process. Probably great films not watched for many people got down because of this. Nevertheless, the list is beautiful and a nice gateway for someone who wants to watch films out of the Citizen Kane and company.
@CECIL WILL BURCHETT
That would be great but it’d be better to construct a more “rigorous” list with the new conditions and rules Scorpiorising has talked about. Though of course this can be the Alternative Canon 2009!
@ROBERT W PEABODY III
The complete ranking is here in Excel format
@ULI CAIN IS WRITING
Thank you! but with the excel book was very easy.
@CEDRIC
Corrected already!.
@RWP III — When pasting the list to Word or Excel choose “Paste Special” from the “Edit” menu and select something that is not HTML (unformatted, unicode text, or text).
Many thanks for counting the votes, M°. Now that’s a canon list which I truly like.
And once again for the record, I reject the idea of a Canon and Anti-Canon, There Is No Canon, There Are Only Films.
But still a damn fine list.
It’s so pretty. Though I notice a lot of East Asia in there.
But I’m not complaining.
Damn spiffy. Woot woot, Outer Space REPRESENTTT!
Meanwhile, wow, it feels like another lifetime when this thing started.
Considering the literature this site is creating in user-generated lists such as these, director’s cup votes, and other events people seem interested in maintaining yearly, we could make a pretty mad ezine if the Mubiland peeps don’t give enough screen time with their periodical missives. Just sayin’.

Thanks for all the hard work people – will definitely be referencing this list in the months to come.
@ Edward McDonald: thanks !
wow – about 60 I have not seen – so it worked !
A lot more films to add to my list.
HERE is a list to make it easier for you fine folks.
