Wait, why’s it so short? I swear the cut I saw was 155 minutes, and the cut that was passed by the BBFC was 160…
Has there been two different versions released for each side of the Atlantic?
I guess so, since it’ll be screened here (Finland, Europe) in September and that cut is 164min.
That’s pretty shitty for from an American viewpoint to be frank. The only good thing that could come from a cut version of Enter the Void is if it turned out to be better then the 3 hour version.
DAMN this RAINS on my parade but I am still semi happy that I get to see something, I will defiantly make inquires as to why I am only gonna see the 137m version.
I’m not the least bit fucking surprised about the way-shorter cut—though I’m sick with disappointment.
You know, we don’t need to see the advent of an actual theocracy here under a President Sarah Palin: we’re hobbled, always, by censors & religious fanatics, now in the 21st century as much as in Mencken’s time, when he was railing against the same bullshit…This means, I suppose, that the cut of Enter the Void slated for OnDemand next month (?) on cable will be the same amputated version?
I think it’s ridiculous that they are cutting it, but honestly I think it will make a better film. I heard they’re doing the same thing in Australia for its general release. I saw the 155 min, is there really a 3 hour version?
There really isn’t a ‘they’, that I’m aware of, that make these cutting decisions. From what I read in the interview in the new filmmaker magazine, is that Noe himself has been cutting it down ever since cannes. I would feel differently if he want making the decisions, but that isn’t the case. I respect whatever choices he makes and I can’t wait to see it whenever I get the chance
But what was HIS reason for cutting it down? I wouldn’t expect a director like Noe to try and make the film more likable?
Did he watch it and realise the last hour was so painfully tedious and pointless he didn’t want to subject any more viewers to it?
The film is a thing of pure perfection as I saw it, in its 155 minute cut. Cutting it…I can’t see that doing the film any good…
He had mentioned something about tightening up in some areas which over the course of 155 minutes, there is bit that would be lost. As far as making it ‘likable’, I really don’t think that thought even crossd his mind. This is a culmination of 15 years worth of work. I’m sure he’s going to make it exactly the way he wants it.

WHAT
Max S: The version that’ll be shown in Finland is 138 minutes (saw it today at a press screening).
well, what did you think?
Benico Del Toro was there!
He’s the guy from the ice-cream ad
Olli Sulopuisto:
True, I just came here to correct that the print here will be the shorter aswell after all (3 weeks late haha)
This explains the run time. It has not been cut down any further than the first cut, Noé just wants it shown at 25 fps:

It was like 2001: Space Odyssey + love + drugdealing + Japanese people fucking = Enter the Void.
Amazing cinematography.
The reason why the cut is shorter depends entirely on the projector speed in the cinema. The cut that was shown in australia was the shown at 25fps, I believe the cut show at cannes and various other places is shown at 24fps. This happens with home video and films shown on tv, especially in HD. Try watching something on foxtel HD on an HD TV, its really fucking annoying because they have to insert a frame to ensure that the image keeps up with the audio track, so in effect, it looks like the picture moves really fast, then slows down. I can’t stand watching anything on HD pay television anymore for this very reason.
Now I’m really dissappointed that I missed the screening of this film, I’ve been waiting since 2007 since I first heard Noe was in Japan filming this :(
Sven
The film is apparently 9 reels long but reel 7 willl not be in US prints. Why this is I do not know. I think I’ll be waiting until I can see this uncut.

I’m afraid to go see this only to find out its not uncut…
I saw the 142 minute version. I’d like to see what was cut.

Co-presented with VICE magazine
In this state-of-the-art head trip, an inseparable brother and sister—American expats ensconced deep within the lower depths of Tokyo—find themselves separated and adrift in a hallucinogenic firestorm set in motion by simple yet extremely bad lifestyle choices. It’s a tale of sex, drugs, and, of all things, an in-your-face afterlife, courtesy of the mind of Gaspar Noé, the creator of Irreversible. Speaking of which, stick around after the screening to pick Noé’s brain. He’ll be on stage with VICE overlord Shane Smith for a Q&A. And if that’s not enough, free “stimulation” will be doled out at a VICE-appointed afterparty.
