I’d try getting a hold of someone from Richard Linklater’s or Wes Anderson’s production companies, who may be able to point you in the right direction. Austin-Travis County should have a film commission as well, and that would be another good place to start.
Get involved with South by Southwest as a volunteer, or the Austin Film Society. You can either apply for a grant for your own film, become an intern/apprentice, or get connected with people who are looking for crew members.

I’m from Houston, but currently residing in Brooklyn, NY and I was wondering if anyone in Austin could tell me about the film scene there and how I can get involved. I’ve been a production assistant on a handful of big films and have done some side work as a editor.
