Do we have to be — forgive the word — “anal” about all this? Someone starts a redudant thread? So what? It’ll eventually work its way down to the bottom like all ignored threads. Someone gets a little heated about a point he or she is trying to make? So what? That’s what we’re here for, isn’t it? Better to get it out here than let it build up and have one of those going postal moments we cinephiles are so well known for. ;) I wish there was more discussion back and forth, actually, even if it’s challenging, instead of just opinions at right angles to each other. Sometimes it feels like a tower of babel. But this is not stuff I get upset about.

Thanks Jake. The hall of shame is what you make out of it, it was an open question.

I offer some suggestions to keep this site from exhausting itself, something the forum is starting to show in it’s relative infancy.

If there could be a way to cross reference posts that are the same, it would help from starting the same posts and contribute to the longevity of the old ones. People put time and effort into writing them (well some of them do), and they deserve that attention.

Also, if the site implements a feature that would categorize topics by subject, it would help fix the problem.

1) NO MORE “TOP 5 TOP 10” LISTS.

Seriously, enough.

2) NO MORE “WHO’S BETTER” SUCH AND SUCH.

Ditto.

3) NO MORE QUENTIN TARANTINO POSTS.

Wishful thinking.

4) NO MORE “FAVORITE MOVIES” POSTS.

Plenty of those.

5) I would like to put Bret Ratner in the hall of shame.

I think the only one that would get through is the last one.

Now I have a serious inductee; people who join threads for no other reason than just to complain about their subjects. Like if I start an Oscars thread such as “Who should win Best Picture This Year?,” I don’t want twenty trillion people joining the thread just to shit all over the Oscars. Sure, most of the nominnes this year were undeserving, but that thread is not for you to say how much you hate the Oscars. It’s for people who do like the Oscars to give their picks and stuff.

That’s just one example. And everyone on The Auteurs is guilty of something similar, even me, such as on this thread (read my other post on here.) Half the posts on here are just bitching about THE THREAD ITSELF, and it’s starting to drive me nuts!

So I nominate thread-haters for The Auteurs Hall of Shame.

fruit as a dessert, corn syrup, denim, fox news, achievment tests, daylight savings time, body odor, Oprah, Patch Adams, june bugs, burnt popcorn in an office, diet soda, lung cancer.

I don’t want to start some sort of cyber vortex unstoppable cycle but you can’t hate on hate threads in a hate thread.

Amen, R.U.S. One thing I have been trying to do diligently is to research old threads and resurrect them. I think lists have their place, they don’t piss me off. The only thing that “pisses me off” is when people get needlessly negative, or when people respond to specific arguments with rote generalities. But even that rolls off my shoulders pretty easily. I just find it hard to get that angry when I’m surrounded by films and film-lovers. Is that so strange?

Maybe The Auteurs forum will separate into East and West sides. On the East side it will be forbidden to create lists or compare two people to each other and on the West side they will live freely, listing away without worrying about the Stasi. I’d wanna live in the West. But seriously, if you don’t love making lists or top fives, you should see High Fidelity, lists are a subtle poetry.
