Seriously people?

The only thing that depresses me about Avatar is how much money it’s raking in and how people won’t stop talking about it.

McBean

Everything about Avatar depressed me.

WHAT?! That is the most ridiculous crap I’ve ever heard. If you get that immersed in a film long after it is done, there may be a certain specialist you need to see….

“But I can understand why it made people depressed. The movie was so beautiful and it showed something we don’t have here on Earth.”

Oh good God.

David Letterman Joke:

Now that Kevin Jonas is married, the only virgins left are waiting in line at Avatar

I wonder if people will start painting their faces blue?

Actually that wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

james cameron’s masterplan was 2 sadden the globe and the only way 2 eliminate the subliminal threat is 2 protect the torso via luminous green anti-depression clothing like the girl in the front row or a cardboard box preferably from a takeaway pizza :O(

same thing happened for me and Weekend at Bernie’s.

I read this article the other day and was just dumbfounded. I’m really tired of hearing about this damn film. It’s really sad that people find Avatar so beautiful they contemplate suicide but you can’t even get these people to watch something like Tarkovsky or Bergman, films with beauty and actual meaning.

What’s the problem? The world is going to find some way of depopulating us, might as well be through Avatar.

As per the blue paint comment, it will be sold right beside the Twilight body glitter at Hot Topic.

I’m depressed too.

I’m depressed to be reminded that people succumb to such a pathetic mindset on a regular basis in our society.

And I’m consequently depressed by the fact that this story gets such media attention from a juggernaut like CNN.

That makes me hate the mainstream media more.

And then I realize that CNN is slanted and neutered in order to entertain the lowest common denominator.

That lowest common denominator = fanboys and girls who are depressed because they don’t live on Pandora.

I’m depressed.

From The Economist:

A lot of people wanted to talk about Avatar, and there’s a fair amount to discuss there: how pretty it is, how it works as mass spectacle, the film’s deeply muddled politics, how ecology and religion are connected. What stands out to me is how rarely this happens any more. .. The sheer ubiquity of Avatar changed how it could be discussed: something so big can cut across our individual interest groups, enabling broader conversations.

Then someone responded:

But the inevitable question arises: what does it mean if the only cultural object that everyone can talk about costs $300 million?

These are big news.I’m so happy that I found out that there are other people who had the same feelings with me about “Avatar”.I’m so excited!!!I’m so glad to discover that I’m not the only who whished to be tall and blue…Mr Cameron just made all of my dreams come true. How could I now face the realityOur ugly and cruel worldNow,I will have the chance to discuss my problems with other people in this web community, and I hope I will find a way to survive far from Pandora.

I am new here. Without the Avatar, I wont be posting anything with you guys. But I truly see that Avatar at the leading edge of technology, bringing all our collective dreams into two dimensional screen!

Hopefully we haven’t had any suicides yet on The Auteurs.

How’s everyone doing? I’m here if you need to talk.

It’s a whole lot cheaper than taking them out to a bar and trying to get them drunk.

I’m surprised there weren’t any suicides back in the early 90’s during the Lisa Frank sensation. The only difference between Pandora and a Lisa Frank world is the heavy use of pink that she applies to her dolphins. The rest is kosher.

What really depressed me was this film being the most-selling movie of all time. And James Cameron being awarded the Golden Globe for best director against Quentin Tarantino and Clint Eastwood, I feel like most of the cinema produced nowadays haves as it only purpose to make everyone rich; not making a good movie.

Jeff

It doesn’t bother me that Avatar is the biggest grossing movie of all time and wins silly Golden Globe awards (like that really means anything). I have no desire to see it anyway. There’s so many films out there, both new and old, that deserve our attention so why waste time discussing overtly commercial movies to begin with? It’s not as though the legions of people who flocked to see Avatar are also eagerly awaiting the forthcoming Bela Tarr film too.

And Sean, when have mainstream movies had any other goal than to make people rich?
